During the reign of the Emperor of the Ming Dynasty (1403-1424 AD), Yongle, the capital was moved to Beijing. Out of national defense, he ordered the reconstruction and renovation of the Great Wall on a large scale. Badaling was situated in a strategic position and was an essential part of the Ming Great Wall, whose construction was greatly valued, and was led by General Qi Jiguang to defend Beijing. Its construction was finished in 1505.

The Badaling Great Wall is divided into two sections, the north section and the south one. In the north section, more watchtowers can be appreciated, including 12 watchtowers and the Hero Slope. The south section contains 7 watchtowers, quipped with cable cars and toboggans, which take visitors shuttling between mountains and forest.
North Route
No. 1 North Tower - Hike to No. 12 North Tower - Return to No. 11 North Tower - Head for Bear Park
The north section needs longer and steeper climbs, which are suitable for hiking veterans or people of huge physical strength and persistence. The previous Towers 1 - 7 are relatively smooth. Or you can choose the toboggan, ascending from the No. 1 North Tower. The Toboggan ride will take you to the North Tower 4.

Combine with Mutianyu or Juyongguan
As the most popular and iconic section of the Great Wall of China, Badaling must be a hot attraction. Mutianyu Great Wall is less crowded, compared to the former, and also a great destination, welcomed by foreign visitors. And it is accessible during the holidays as well.
