2. Getting There

From New Chitose Airport: Flights to New Chitose Airport (Sapporo), then take a bus or train to Niseko for about 2 hours.

From JR Kutchan Station: Take the bus bound for Rusutsu Resort, and get off at the Mt. Yotei trailhead. Walk 1.8 kilometers to the Kutchan Hirafu Course trailhead.

  • Volcanic Gas Monitors: Check real-time levels at Hokkaido GOV.

  • Be careful of brown bears.

  • Winter will be more treacherous; therefore, wearing an avalanche beacon, shovel, and probe is mandatory in winter.

Limited buses from JR Kutchan Station are available, which can arrive at the “Yotei Tozan Guchi” and “Yotei Shizen Koen”. Or you can choose to rent a car to drive to the base, which will take 2.5 hours.
