32-Day Best Tour of the Middle East and Socotra Island

Welcome to Beirut, Lebanon! This is the first day of this Middle East tour and Socotra tour. With our VIP Meet & Assist service, you will pass through fast-track airport customs and meet your local tour guide and driver. Wander along the Ancient Harbor, with a unique atmosphere in the Mediterranean Sea, which is ideal for capturing postcard-perfect shots.

At noon, head to a coastal restaurant in Byblos to enjoy your lunch. After lunch, board a scenic coastal cable car to Our Lady of Lebanon in Harissa, which treats you to one of Lebanon's most stunning panoramic vistas of the entire coastline. Next, discover Jeita Grotto. Walk to the cave and then take a boat ride to explore this breathtaking limestone cave with towering stalactites and stalagmites. Photos are prohibited, but the otherworldly beauty will leave you a lasting impression.

In the evening, return to Beirut.

Start your morning with a visit to Baalbek Roman Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the world's largest Roman temple complexes. You will visit the most amazing Temple of Jupiter, the most well-preserved Temple of Bacchus, and the Temple of Venus.

After savoring an authentic Arabic lunch at a local restaurant, you will continue to the Lebanese Mountains to explore two more UNESCO sites: the Cedars of God and Qadisha Valley. Use your drone to capture sweeping views of the valley's dramatic landscapes.

Later, make your way back to Beirut.

Begin your morning with Beirut's cultural gems. Discover the National Museum of Beirut to delve into the rich history of Lebanon. Wander Martyrs' Square, steeped in significance. For a more laid-back vibe, you can choose you visit Beirut Souks and Zaitunay Bay.

Enjoy a delicious lunch in Beirut and later cross the border into Damascus, Syria via the Masnaa crossings. It is estimated to be a 1-1.5-hour drive. In the evening, stroll in the city and enjoy a traditional Syrian dinner.

In the morning, depart Damascus at 07:00 for Palmyra, with a 4-hour drive. You can take a break halfway. Arrive around 11:00, check into your hotel in Palmyra.

Later, explore the ancient ruins of Palmyra. Visit the Temple of Bel, the core landmark of the ancient city. Discover the Temple of Baalshamin and the Roman Theater. At the Roman Theater, you can take photos of the panoramic views on the stage. Admire the Arch of Triumph, a grand example of Roman engineering. Wander the Valley of the Tombs and visit the striking funerary monuments.

At noon, head to a local restaurant in Palmyra and enjoy lunch. Try traditional Arabic grilled meat, fresh salads, and desserts.

In the afternoon, explore Palmyra further. Chase the perfect sunset for photography. Hike to Qalaat ibn Maan, which is on a hill above the city. It offers sweeping views of the entire ancient city. Take your time to capture memorable shots. If you want to try drone aerial photography, you need permission in advance.

In the evening, relax at your hotel and enjoy your dinner. Prepare for the next day's cross-border journey to Jordan.

In the morning, go through exit formalities and travel to Jordan. The time of the journey and the border inspection process may be quite long, so please be patient and cooperate. It is recommended to carry some snacks and water with you. After arriving in Amman, take a break in the hotel.

In the afternoon, explore Amman and visit the Amman Roman Theater, an iconic ancient landmark. Climb the Amman Citadel for stunning panoramic views of the city. Head to the market for a meal. Try local dishes like Mansaf, a classic Jordanian specialty.

In the evening, if you're not tired, you can experience the local night market. Or return to the hotel to organize gear for the next day's Petra hike.

In the morning, have breakfast at the hotel. Drive to Jerash, which takes 45 to 60 minutes. Later, visit Jerash's ancient sites, like plazas, colonnaded streets, temples, and theaters. Your guide will share stories of the town's rise and fall.

In the afternoon, have lunch near the ruins and return to Amman afterward. You can do some shopping or visit a local French café.

In the evening, join a team meeting. Learn key tips for the next day's full-day Petra trip, including footwear and physical energy management.

Morning light is best for Jerash. Using a polarizing filter can enhance the contrast between the sky blue and the stone.

In the morning, enjoy breakfast and then depart for Petra. The drive takes 3 to 4 hours. Stop to take photos of the rural landscapes and valley views along the way. Arrive in Petra and check into your hotel.

In the afternoon, go for a light hike. Explore the Siq Canyon and scout for photo spots.

In the evening, have dinner in Petra Town. Sleep early so as to be well-rested for the hiking tomorrow.

In the early morning, wake up at 6:00. Enter the SIQ as early as possible to avoid crowds. Walk to the Treasury (Al Khazna). Listen to your guide's explanation while taking pictures. Later, explore deeper and visit the ancient theater, royal tombs, and Roman-era ruins.

In the afternoon, hike to Ad-Deir (the Monastery), if you have enough energy. It involves 45-60 minutes of uphill stairs. Enjoy panoramic canyon views from the top and capture the stunning sunset. In the evening, return to your hotel. Experience a massage or relaxing activity to unwind.

Photography tip:
Wait for the warm sunset light near the Monastery. You can bring a tripod for long-exposure night shots or starry skies without any light pollution.

Enjoy your breakfast in the morning. Leave Petra and head to Wadi Rum. It takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. After arriving, take a 4×4 vehicle to the desert. Start an off-road exploration to discover giant rock arches, dramatic canyons, and unique natural rock sculptures. Capture these stunning landscapes with your camera.

In the afternoon, enjoy a picnic or Bedouin-style lunch in the red desert. The desert's unique red sand and rock formations create perfect photo backdrops. Continue exploring and taking photos after lunch.

Tonight, you will stay in a luxury desert camp, offering comfortable beds or tents. Enjoy the campfire dinner and stargazing.

Temperatures in the desert drop sharply at night. Bring a light down jacket or windbreaker. Stay warm while shooting starry skies.

In the morning, join a sunrise shoot or short hike in Wadi Rum. Capture the desert's golden morning glow.

Drive back to Amman. Head to the Dead Sea area if time allows. Experience floating in the Dead Sea and mud therapy for about 2 hours.

In the afternoon, return to Amman. Proceed to the airport to catch a flight to Baghdad, Iraq. Or stay overnight in Amman for an early morning flight the next day, depending on flight connections.

In the morning, arrive at Baghdad International Airport. Check into your hotel to settle in. At noon, have lunch at the hotel and rest.

In the afternoon, explore Imam Ali Mosque, a model of Islamic architecture with blue domes and gilded decorations. Wander Al-Mutanabbi Street, a historic cultural district filled with bookstores, cafes, and street art. Discover the National Museum of Iraq, which displays ancient cultural relics from the Mesopotamian region, including Babylonian and Assyrian relics.

In the morning, leave Baghdad and head for Karbala, which takes 1.5 to 2 hours. Visit Imam Hussein Shrine, a world-renowned Shia holy site with gilded domes. Explore Al Abbas Mosque, another sacred landmark in the city.

After lunch, head to the Babylon Ruins, which takes about 1 hour. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is the core of ancient Babylonian civilization. Admire the replica of the Ishtar Gate, ancient city wall ruins, and intricate reliefs.

In the evening, travel to Najaf (1-hour drive). Visit Imam Ali Mosque, one of Shia Islam's most important holy sites. It features gilded domes and exquisite interior decorations.

After enjoying lunch, head to Erbil International Airport and catch your flight to Muscat, Oman.

At noon, have lunch at a local Muscat restaurant to taste authentic Omani flavors. In the afternoon, explore Muscat's old town and port. After lunch and a break, head to Jebel Akhdar (Great Mountains), located in the Hajar Range. Hike mountain trails and visit terraced fields. Explore rose gardens if in season. Capture panoramic views of valleys and oases, with stunning sunset light.

In the afternoon, drive about 3 hours to Wahiba Sands. Enjoy a 4x4 jeep safari across sand dunes. Watch the desert sunset and shoot its golden light. Experience traditional Bedouin tea and snacks.

In the early morning, you have an optional activity: a desert sunrise shoot. Capture the first golden rays painting the sand dunes. This morning, you will continue small-scale desert activities. Take a leisurely hike or join another exciting 4x4 jeep adventure.

At noon, have lunch on the way. In the afternoon, drive back to Muscat along the coastline. Pass through charming fishing villages and lush oasis canyons. Stop to shoot cliffside sea views and the striking contrast where oases meet the desert.

In the evening, arrive in Muscat and take time to relax. For dinner, dine at a beachfront restaurant and enjoy delicious cuisine while soaking in the night views.

In the morning, enjoy free time in Muscat. You can stroll along Qurum Beach. Admire the elegant exterior of the Royal Opera House or watch a performance. Alternatively, wander around Al Bustan Palace and take photos.

In the evening, arrive in Cairo and settle into your hotel. Take time to adjust and rest.

Today is designated as a flexible buffer day to accommodate flight cancellations in Socotra, additional visa procedures, or personnel adjustments.

If all the procedures are completed, a Cairo city extension tour can be arranged. And you may visit the Khan al-khalili market or enjoy a Nile River cruise.

Please keep your phone on and pay attention to the team leader's announcements. Flight confirmations are often finalized within 48–72 hours before departure.

In the morning, depart from Cairo and head to the airport according to your flight schedule (usually weekly charters, which depend on final confirmation). Visa check before boarding the plane, presenting the electronic visa/approval letter arranged by the travel agency.

After arriving at Hadibo Airport, Socotra. You will be greeted by local representatives, then transferred to your campsite or hotel via private car or 4x4. Settle in and attend a safety briefing.

In the evening, take a short coastal walk, and you can capture the sunset. Then enjoy a dinner featuring fresh seafood and authentic local delicacies.

Your tour guide will provide an overview of the daily schedule for the next 7 nights, along with weather and shooting advice.

After breakfast, head to Dixam Plateau and admire the iconic dragon blood trees (Dracaena cinnabari) and otherworldly rift landscapes. Your guide will share insights into the ecology and history of the dragon blood tree. Embark on a short plateau hike, and you can shoot the unique trees with a wide-angle lens and a long-focus Lens.

At noon, enjoy a simple meal in a nearby village. Immerse yourself in local life by visiting residents' traditional houses.

In the evening, return to the campsite to rest. Stargazing explanations can be arranged during the night.

In order to protect the local ecosystem, it is strictly prohibited to pick or break the dragon blood tree or other plants.

In the morning, head to Firmihin Forest, the densest concentration of Dragon Blood Trees in Socotra. Embark on a 2 to 4-hour hike in the Dragon Blood Tree forest. Explore deep into thick groves of these ancient trees and take pictures of their iconic umbrella-shaped canopies. Your guide will explain the formation and causes of the trees' shape.

In the afternoon, enjoy a picnic by the forest canyon, surrounded by dramatic rock formations and endemic flora. Continue chasing distinctive compositions for photography.

In the evening, return to the camp for dinner and review the materials from the day. And you can tidy up the batteries and memory cards.

Photography tip:
The contrast of light within the forest is very strong. A full-frame lens and a variable ND filter can help control the exposure.

In the morning, get up early and head to Detwah Lagoon, a paradise for drone and wide-angle photography. The sandy beach and the lagoon water with a blue and white gradient, and the reflections in the water create an astonishingly beautiful scene. Hike along shallow shores and capture mirror-like reflections of the sky and surrounding landscapes. UAV photography can be arranged.

In the afternoon, you will continue to shoot by Detwah Lagoon for a long time. You can shoot color gradations with different angles and lighting conditions. In the evening, return to your campsite, and you can back up your materials and recharge.

Kind Reminder:
The use of drones requires special permission and follows the rules. The drone should be kept away from bird flocks and residential buildings. A waterproof cover should be used to prevent moisture from the sea.

In the morning, after breakfast, head to Zahek Dunes, where you can experience a thrilling 4x4 off-road safari across undulating dunes and take photographs. Dive into sandboarding excitement! Glide down dune slopes and capture the aerial view of sand patterns and lines.

In the afternoon, head to an ideal sunset spot. Take photos blending portrait shots with scenic backdrops. In the evening, gather at the dune camp for a special dinner. If conditions allow, a desert bonfire will light up the night under the starry Socotran sky.

The sand contains salt and fine particles. It is recommended to store electronic devices in a sealed manner.

In the morning, board a traditional Dhow boat for a half-day to full-day sea journey (depending on the destination). Keep an eye out for playful dolphins and seabirds soaring above. You will arrive on the shoal. Walk along the beaches, and then you can gear up for snorkeling with the provided basic equipment. Dive into the turquoise waters to discover vibrant coral reefs and a variety of marine life.

In the afternoon, savor a fresh seafood picnic (cooked on the boat or served on the island). On the return journey, you can take pictures of the coastline. In the evening, return to the campsite and sort through your photography materials.

After breakfast, set off for Hoq Cave, Socotra's largest cave. Equip yourself with headlamps or helmets when venturing into the cave. Learn about stunning geological formations, cave stalactites, and fossils of ancient organisms.

In the afternoon, enjoy a picnic outside Hoq Cave. Embark on a short hike back to the campsite. The evening is for free time or cultural exchanges with local families.

Today, you can revisit shooting spots you like. You can book a drone or photography instructor to guide you along the way. Later, sort out and back up all the photos and videos. You can also visit a local craft market to pick up handcrafted souvenirs.

In the evening, try hands-on local crafts or relax on the beaches. In the evening, gather for a farewell dinner.
